Pest control

Soil pest or leaf pest? Choose by where it lives

The pest's address decides the product. Leaf pests, stem borers and soil pests need different approaches, and a spray cannot reach what lives underground.

The most common mistake with pests is choosing a product before finding out where the pest lives. A spray covers leaves. It does not reach a grub in the soil or a borer inside the stem. So look first: leaf, stem or soil.

On the leaf: whitefly, aphids and other sucking pests

These pests feed on the plant sap, and the only way to reach them is good coverage of the leaves, including the underside where many sit. Vedh controls whitefly, aphids and other sucking pests. Dose: 2.5 ml per litre of water, as a foliar spray, at the start of the pest.

Aphids also spread virus. If you are seeing virus symptoms, read the guide on disease and virus.

In the stem: borers

Borers live inside the stem, so the stem itself has to be protected.

  • Tir helps remove pin-hole borer beetles from the plant stem. Dose: 2.5 ml per litre of water, as a foliar spray.
  • Ready Kav Paste is a ready-to-use stem paste: on grapes it gives uniform bud break and helps control flea beetle, and on pomegranate and other crops it protects the stem from insects.

In the soil: grubs, mealybug and nematodes

Soil pests are out of reach of a spray, so soil products are applied through drip, or sprayed on moist soil in the evening.

  • Killoryx+ is a nematode bioinsecticide made with ICAR-NBAIR licensed technology, for mealybug, stem borer and white grub. Soak the 250 g can in water for 4 hours, then mix it into 200 litres of water. One can covers 1 acre. Apply in the evening on moist soil. See white grub in sugarcane and mealybug in grapes.
  • Nemarix is for nematodes in orchard and vegetable crops. Dose: 250 g per acre. Soak the 250 g in water for 12 hours before applying through drip.

If the roots have swollen knots, that points to nematodes, so read your crop’s roots first.

Keep biologicals and chemicals apart

Killoryx+ and other living biological products should not be tank-mixed with chemical pesticides. Apply them separately, and ask us before combining anything.

Where to look

Check the underside of leaves and the growing tips, the stem base and any holes or frass on the stem, and dig around the roots of a plant that is wilting in patches. All the pest products are on one page, and the dosage calculator gives the quantity for your area. If you are unsure what you found, send us a photo on WhatsApp.
